In the Drink – Diving in potable water

Did you know we can dive in drinking water, otherwise known as potable water?

Enclosed water reservoirs are located in underground bunkers on hilltops all around the country.  These reservoirs hold enough water to serve the local community during peak times, emergencies such as power blackouts, pump station failures and fire control.

The elevation of the water reservoir on top of a hill ensures there is good pressure within the pipelines due to gravity.

We have recently worked in underground reservoirs throughout the UK, conducting inspections and assisting with the refurbishment of sampling points.

Commercial and Specialised Diving can also survey the inside of these reservoirs using a miniature ROV (remotely operated underwater vehicle).  Any maintenance or repair work can then be conducted with our confined spaces and/or diving teams.
