Commercial and Specialised Diving returned to a Hampshire Leisure Centre this month to carry out condition surveys and also to investigate a cluster of 6 cracked tiles on the wall of the main pool.
On removal of the six, cracked large format tiles, our experienced divers discovered the cause of the damage. A large cavity had formed behind the damaged tiles along the line of a failed construction joint. These joints are rigid and join segments of the pool tank that have been cast at different times as separate sections, and they are vital to the fabric of the pool. Their failure, as in this case, is a common cause of cracked tiles.
Our divers cleaned out the loose debris from the cavity and made good. Once the construction joint was made solid and secure, new tiles were applied, and the pool was left looking as good as new.
