As we mentioned in a previous newsletter article, we have been working in a number of outdoor lidos recently. This month we were asked to attend site to refit a set of handrails that ran around the perimeter of a huge 90x30m outdoor pool.
The handrails had come loose from the liner pool over the summer which meant the pool had to be shut down until repair works were carried out. Draining such a large pool can be immensely expensive so Commercial and Specialised Diving was called in to conduct the repairs. On arrival it was clear that the shield bolts, fastening the handrails to the pool wall, had pulled away which led to the handrails becoming distorted, making it more difficult to get the handrails fitted securely back onto the wall.
The existing fastenings were removed and the handrails were put back to their original shape and fixed to the pool tank wall. Whilst on site the team were also able to repair the vertical ladders within the pool, the handrails on the entry steps and they carried out a free of charge hazard and defect survey; before finally cleaning the pool of any construction debris.
