Commercial and Specialised Diving came to the aid of a north-west LC this month which had problems with a substantial area of failed wall tiles in their main pool. There had been issues with lifted/cracked tiles and failed render in the past which the centre had a temporary repair put in place. CSD were subsequently called in to effect a permanent solution to the problem.
Wall tiling large areas which also require render repair can be a tricky operation, requiring skill and expertise to ensure a successful and durable outcome – many underwater pool repair companies avoid this type of work – but it’s something our divers excel at.
The area concerned involved approximately 150 tiles, covering an area of around 5 square metres. The temporary repair was removed, all loose material and failed render was cleared away, and the surface prepped for the remedial work. In places where the failed render was extensive and deep, the surface needed to be re-built for re-tiling. Once a solid, even surface had been prepared the area was tiled, grouted and the expansion joint at the base of the pool re-instated. The work took place over three nights, with the pool left clean and ready to use each morning, eliminating the need for any down-time.
The work was completed within the timeframe with minimum disruption to the centre, and the completed wall looked as good as new!
