Underwater Tiling

Underwater Tile Replacement

There are many reasons why swimming pool tiles can fail or become damaged. Broken tiles can present a serious health & safety risk to pool users as their razor sharp edges can cause injury to swimmers. Pool tile issues are the biggest source of claims for cut feet and also the cause of the most downtime and loss of revenue.

Although the defective area may be visible from the poolside, the actual area of debonding can be far greater. An underwater tile tap test will determine the extent of the failed tiles. Tiles will then need to be removed back to good to facilitate a solid repair.

We keep large quantities of swimming pool tiles in stock for a quick turnaround and to ensure we can resolve your pool tiling issues as soon as possible. Underwater Mosaic Tiling

What has caused pool tiles to crack?

There are many reasons why swimming pool tiles can fail or become damaged. If you notice tiles breaking, it is important to address the underlying cause, as it could lead to further damage if left unchecked.

Here are some common causes

  • Temperature fluctuations – the pool temperature can fluctuate leading to pool tile expanding and contracting.
  • Improper Installation – If swimming pool tiles were not installed properly for example using the wrong adhesive or grout this can lead to tile issues later down the line.
  • Physical Impact – Pool Tiles can break and become damaged from impact such as heavy objects falling in the pool or constant impact with ladder feet.
  • Movement In The Pool Structure – Swimming pools can settle and shift over time this can create stress on the tiles resulting in apexing.
  • Age and Wear – Overtime the grout and adhesives can deteriorate along with the tiles them self causing pool tile failure.
  • Poor Quality Tiles – Swimming pool tiles must be fully vitrified to withstand water and chemical ingress, lower quality tiles have increased porosity and aren’t as resistant causing cracking or breaking.
